THE CREEK
The storm moves down the harbor
the water changes
from silver to black
the sky solid in its gloomy threat
The creek winds away into the marsh
as if to escape
but none can escape
the coming storm
The rain pummels the creek
water on water
as if it were a surface to destroy
the lightning tears the sky
then sews it up again
The creek makes slowly for the land
in futile flight
