Back in the mid-nineties, I took a rare break from my non-profit work and tried a snowboarding lesson on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains, with who turned out to be my life and business partner. What resulted was an immediate love affair with my husband, Roland, and the Rocky Mountains (but I will never get on a snowboard again!). It took that newborn love and the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Montana to pry me away from the ocean and to move west. Here, I’ve been able to pursue and refine my skill as a photographer, while working with Roland to build a successful business.

Together, we’ve created Kimball Nelson Photography.  For the last fifteen years, our studio has documented family histories by photographing those important moments in our clients’ lives.  It all starts with the wedding day, and then the newborn session, into family portraits and then high school senior photography.

We capture a family’s life and create art for them to enjoy in their home and remind them of their history and memories.

More recently, I accomplished a big milestone and become a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP).  I earned this designation after meeting rigorous requirements measuring my artistic and technical competence.  Professional Photographers of America currently recognizes fewer than 2,000 Certified Professional Photographers.  In addition, both Roland and I are Certified Google Photographers, shooting Google Business View virtual tours.

For natural family and senior portraits, we love to use the Colorado landscape as a backdrop for your images. Some of our favorite places to meet clients are the numerous parks and open spaces along Colorado’s front range or along the Poudre River. We use organic, natural props in our sittings, shooting outdoors whenever possible, using natural light to garner genuine images.

We love to have fun with our photography! That’s why we specialize in weddings – such fun, happy occasions. When we shoot a family or senior portrait, we work to have fun with you all, to set up fun poses, to get children playing – all to provide those natural moments.
