HELPING
There is little I can do
a small quiet person in a great universe
to help with the inequities of life
but I can help a tree
a tiny soft green tree
starting life
I can cut away the briars
I can discourage encroaching growth
I can trim over-hanging branches
I will never own this tree
nor do I want to
but as I pass by each day
I see the tree grow strong and tall
because I helped
