GHOST TOWN by Weezie Nelson
The ghost of a past
lies
nestled in the foothills
simple structures
adequate
for needs thrust into the harsh world
of precious metals
dreams of men
washed down in little streams
chipped away in darkness
while the indifference of mountains

THE CAIRN by WZ Nelson
A stairway to the sky
crafted by simple hands
to carry prayers aloft

a memorial to the gone
washed with tears

a connection to the past where primitive souls

APPLE BLOSSOMS by Weezie Nelson
Apple blossoms
wait for the soft warm hum
of spring
the darting fuzzy bodies
spreading pollen like fairy dust
the simple mechanism of life’s miracle
that carries the sustenance

FREEDOM by Weezie Nelson
To once again know
the glorious soaring of the crimped heart
the slow, graceful unfolding of the imprisoned soul
the need to run on flying feet
through flower dotted meadows
beneath the mountain’s furrowed brow
to never be underrated
or overburdened
to shout to the air
I am free!

DOG IS LOVE by WZ Nelson
The dog
ever brave and foolish
ever patient and enthusiastic
a  friend
wandering the beach and forest
traveling the back roads and highways
comforting in times of sadness
joyful in times of glee
content to lie in the dust
on a summer day
and wait

ROCKS
When I can find no rest in the noise
no gap in the constant hum
the whine of nature’s gifts being consumed
I get my strength from rocks
finding them
sitting on them
imperturbable
silent
holding warmth

SUNRISE
The sun is up again!
the fear of the darkness of night shatters
like a black glass
thrown on a jagged rock
the demons crawl away
to hide within the vestigial shadows
the spirit rises to the heights again
